Tesco has launched a major recruitment drive to fill 26,000 temporary roles across the UK in preparation for the festive season. The supermarket chain is looking for new colleagues to assist with high-demand roles, including order picking for online deliveries and stock replenishment, across its Superstores and Extra stores nationwide.
Alexandra Brown, Tesco's Group People Services Director, shared that the company is seeking individuals who thrive in team settings and enjoy helping customers. "We’re looking for people who enjoy working as part of a team and are prepared to go that extra mile in order to help our customers," she said. The variety of part-time roles on offer includes day and night shifts to accommodate diverse needs and schedules, available across Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and the Isle of Man.
Career Clinics to Support Applicants
In addition to traditional recruitment channels, Tesco will host Career Clinics across the UK in November. These clinics aim to assist those not currently employed by providing guidance on overcoming employment barriers, such as a lack of skills or confidence in the recruitment process. Attendees will also have the opportunity to interview for festive roles on the spot.
Seasonal Work with Potential for Permanent Positions
While these are temporary roles, Tesco encourages festive colleagues to consider applying for permanent positions once the seasonal period concludes. Jay Styles, who joined Tesco as a Christmas colleague and is now a permanent checkout employee at the Hednesford store in Staffordshire, described his experience as transformative. “I’m glad to say once I started working at Tesco I felt my confidence grow, and I have much more faith in my abilities," he shared.
For those interested in seasonal work, Tesco’s festive recruitment drive provides an opportunity to join a diverse team, develop new skills, and potentially secure a long-term position.
