The UK is set to generate nearly 38,000 new jobs following the International Investment Summit, which secured £63 billion in funding across key sectors such as infrastructure, technology, and renewable energy. The summit’s record-breaking outcome more than doubles the £29.5 billion achieved at last year’s Global Investment Summit.

Major Job Creation Across Sectors

A wide range of industries are set to benefit from the investments, with thousands of jobs being created in technology, energy, manufacturing, and life sciences. Blackstone, for instance, committed £10 billion towards building one of Europe’s largest data centres in Blyth, Northumberland, which will lead to the creation of 4,000 jobs. Meanwhile, renewable energy company Octopus Energy has pledged £2 billion for the development of four new solar farms and a battery in Cheshire, supporting green energy generation and job opportunities.

Expanding Opportunities in Technology and Research

The tech sector will also see significant growth, with CyrusOne, CloudHQ, and CoreWeave announcing substantial investments in data centres. Imperial College London will invest £150 million in a new research campus as part of its DeepTech ecosystem, contributing to the growth of innovation and research opportunities in West London.

Renewable Energy and Net Zero Projects

Net zero initiatives received a boost with £8 billion in private investment from companies like Eni, BP, and Equinor, focusing on carbon capture projects that are expected to create 50,000 long-term jobs. SeAH Wind is also expanding its operations in Teesside with a £225 million investment in wind manufacturing, generating 750 jobs in the process.

Life Sciences and Engineering Jobs

In the healthcare and life sciences sectors, Eli Lilly announced a £279 million partnership to tackle obesity and launch an innovation accelerator for early-stage life sciences companies, which will further drive job creation in the sector. Holtec, a US-based nuclear engineering firm, will also be investing £325 million in South Yorkshire, creating 1,200 engineering jobs over the next two decades.

Government Backing for Long-Term Job Growth

Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds described the summit as a “major vote of confidence in the UK,” highlighting the role of the upcoming Industrial Strategy in supporting sustained job growth. Chancellor Rachel Reeves similarly emphasised that these investments reflect strong confidence in the UK economy, with job creation expected to span multiple industries and regions across the country.
