Nearly 400 new jobs are set to be created following the approval of plans for what is expected to be "one of Europe's largest data centres," according to North Lincolnshire Council.
The proposed development, located on land adjacent to the A180 near South Killingholme, is anticipated to bring an investment of £3 billion to the region.
The project, known as Humber Tech Park, will feature a massive storage facility encompassing 3,326,048 square feet (309,000 square meters). The site will include three large buildings, office spaces, and a horticultural glasshouse.
The council highlighted that this development would position the area as a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
In addition to the data centre, the complex will comprise additional office spaces, generators, an electricity substation, parking facilities, and security fencing.
The plans also incorporate the creation of a shared footpath and cycleway on Habrough Road, which will connect to the existing shared cycleway along the A160.
Council leader Rob Waltham hailed the development as "a significant endorsement of North Lincolnshire's economy."
"This represents an unprecedented level of investment in the region and will serve as a magnet for attracting other high-tech companies to establish themselves in North Lincolnshire," Waltham stated.
"The 400 jobs created will be highly skilled and well-compensated, with operational employees earning an average salary of around £50,000 annually."
He also noted that the development would provide local residents, who might otherwise need to relocate to cities for such opportunities, the chance to access these high-paying jobs in the technology sector close to home.
Additional employment opportunities are expected during the construction phase of the project.
The council's planning committee has granted outline permission for the development to proceed.
