DPD has announced plans to create 250 new jobs at its upcoming £100 million distribution centre, located at Forrest Park, Newton Aycliffe. The new site will also secure 150 existing roles, further enhancing the parcel delivery firm’s workforce.
The 63,000 sq ft warehouse, to be built on an eight-acre site, is part of a long-term lease agreement between DPD and Richardson Barberry, the developer of Forrest Park. The new hub will play a key role in supporting the company’s increasing demand for parcel deliveries while promoting DPD's sustainability goals.
Louise Ferguson, Head of Property for DPD Group UK Ltd, said: “We are absolutely delighted to agree terms for a new, purpose-built DPD distribution centre at Forrest Park. It is a great location for us, and the new facility is part of DPD's aim to be the most sustainable delivery company in the UK.”
Job Opportunities Across Various Roles
The 250 newly created roles will span across logistics and operations, offering job seekers a chance to join DPD during a period of significant growth. In addition to these new roles, the facility will safeguard a further 125 existing positions.
As demand for parcel deliveries continues to rise, DPD has invested heavily in its regional network. The new facility will help the company provide improved services, increase fleet efficiency, and reduce emissions as part of its sustainability objectives.
Long-Term Economic Impact
The new distribution hub is part of a broader development plan for Forrest Park, which will include industrial and business units, with potential to create over 3,000 jobs in the next decade. This development is expected to significantly boost the UK economy, providing opportunities for job seekers across the country.
Jon Robinson, Development Director for Barberry, said: “This pre-let to DPD demonstrates the quality of our proposed development at Forrest Park. The project is a major milestone for the North East and will attract other potential occupiers interested in similar opportunities.”
With a commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2040, DPD's investment in this new distribution hub highlights the company’s focus on long-term sustainability and job creation. The facility is set to become a key part of DPD’s expanding operations, supporting both its business growth and the local workforce.
