Kellogg's has announced plans to create 130 new jobs at its cereal factory in Wrexham, north Wales, following a £75 million investment. The factory, operated by Kellanova, will become Europe's largest cereal manufacturing site as it significantly increases production capacity.

The plant, which currently employs 350 people, produces popular cereal brands such as Special K, All-Bran, and Fruit 'n Fibre. With this expansion, production of Corn Flakes and Crunchy Nut will move from the company's Greater Manchester facility, effectively doubling the factory’s output to 1.5 million boxes a day.

A Major Investment in UK Manufacturing

Kellanova’s investment in the Wrexham site represents the company's largest in the UK for 30 years. The decision follows the company’s announcement in May to close its Trafford Park factory, resulting in the loss of 360 jobs. By consolidating production at the Wrexham plant, the company aims to enhance efficiency, improve sustainability, and reduce costs.

UK Managing Director Chris Silcock commented: “By bringing together the manufacturing of all our major breakfast cereals at one site in Wrexham, we can make significant leaps forward in the efficiency, quality and sustainability of our operation. We look forward to making Wrexham the home of our cereal production for many generations to come.”

Reducing Environmental Impact

As part of the investment, two new production lines powered by artificial intelligence will be introduced, reducing the factory’s CO2 emissions by 11%. The upgraded facility will also enable more efficient use of raw materials, such as rice, leading to a "10-fold reduction" in food waste. Additionally, new packaging lines will be implemented to further streamline production.

Positive Response from Local Leaders

Wrexham MP Andrew Ranger welcomed the investment, highlighting the local workforce's skills and dedication. “Our skilled workforce is one of Wrexham’s greatest assets, and I am confident that their expertise and dedication will contribute to the success of this venture," he said. "I look forward to a prosperous partnership and the positive impact this investment will have for Wrexham.”

The expanded plant is set to become a key player in the UK's cereal production industry, providing long-term job opportunities for the region and helping to strengthen the local economy.
